Q: Hi Kitty, thank you for taking the time to be interviewed as our beautiful #badgirlcrush of the week! We aim to give our readers / followers an insight into some creative women that inspire us, and we love your old Hollywood bombshell style!

A: Thank you ladies for asking me, this is actually my first interview, so I'm very flattered.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself, we can see you are originally from Edinburgh, now living in Melbourne, that must be a nice change of weather!

A: Yeah I'm in love with Melbourne, I've been here for nearly four years now. Originally I'm from Sydney but my family moved to Scotland when I was about 11 years old.

Q: Kitty, we can see you are a multi-talented barber, hairdresser, photographer and make-up artist, can you tell us how you started your career?

A: Just under a year after I arrived in Australia while working in a bar I had a patron walk in and we totally hit it off. Next thing I know he tells me he loved my makeup and off the cuff offered me a job at the salon on the spot, for some reason (probably all the wine) I made the best decision of my life, I started the very next day. That was just over three years ago, I'm now fully qualified, and I love my job(s)!

Q: You have your own business, Kitty Lane Photography, are you self-taught? Who are some of your favourite photographers?

A: I originally started taking photos when I was about 17. I had no idea how to use my camera at the time; I just knew I loved that creative process. When I was 19 I went to college in Edinburgh and studied for 3 years, my tutors were fabulous, and really inspired me to go further with it.
I've always loved photographers like Annie Leibovitz, Gregory Crewdson, Guy Bourdin, David LaChappelle and Ellen Von Unwerth - I've lost hours looking through their portfolios.

Q: With very creative jobs, where do you draw inspiration?

A: I'm a very visual person; I like to make sure I surround myself with different types of art and definitely other creative minds. I'm also total movie buff, from the classics to modern day cinema - I definitely take a lot of my inspiration from film.

Q: If you could describe your style in three words, what would they be?

A: Classic yet modern.

Q: Are there any particular bombshells from the 40’s & 50’s who you admire, or influence your style?

A: Of course Marilyn Monroe is the most prevalent influence on my style; I remember the first time I saw her in Some Like it Hot, from then on I was in love. It wasn't until after I first became a blonde myself (which was not previously planned - oh, to be a hairdresser!) that people began commenting on a likeness I had to her, which was pretty overwhelming. I could only wish I had a William Travilla to fill my wardrobe with those stunning dresses!

Q: Who would you describe as your ultimate Bad Girl?

A: My spirit animal is definitely Wanda Woodward from Crybaby, she has style and sass by the bucket load.

Q: If there was one starlet’s wardrobe you could have as your own, who would it be and why?

A: I would, without a doubt have to say Dita Von Teese. Everything from her immaculate vintage wear, to anything she's designed in her clothing and lingerie lines. Massive love heart eyes!

Q: Your pin up make up is flawless; do you have any tips or tricks for our readers to achieve the look?

A: Practice is the key. The amount of eyeliner I had to redo over and over throughout the years is a testament to that. Contouring is a great way to highlight your best features/bone structure. Eyebrows are extremely important - remember; they're sisters, not twins - so work with them and not against! As far as your red lipstick goes, choose a shade that compliments your skin tone, make sure it pops for the right reasons!

Q : Are there any products you can’t live without?

A: Definitely my hairspray, I use a maximum hold one that you can pick up at any chemist, usually Silhouette  - at only $7.99 you can't go wrong and my hair is tamed perfectly (possibly because I use half a can at a time hah!). Kryolan Pan Stick Foundation keeps me picture perfect, and a gorgeous pair of WASP eyelashes add just the right amount of drama to any look.

Q: What do you love about The Original Bad Girl?

A: I came across a post from TOBG on Instagram and instantly fell in love with the designs, the tops can be both dressed up and down which is perfect for me, they can be worn in any setting - whether it be at work, or at the ballet!

Q: Can you describe to us your perfect weekend?

A: Well, I do work Saturdays, but if there's any energy left in my bones I'll go out for dinner or drinks (or both!) with my girlfriends, Sundays are all about sleep ins and on the spot plans - beer gardens, or attending the Magic Night (a Melbourne all-male strip show that I do photo shoots for) rehearsals. Mondays are my chill out/cleaning day, which, thanks to my mothers influence I kind of love, unless I'm going to my singing lessons.

Q: What are your goals for the rest of the year?

A: I'm currently looking forward to an appearance I have coming up at Crown Casino here in Melbourne. I've recently started singing lessons with an amazing teacher, which I'm planning to continue well into the future. I also have a few photo shoots both in front of, and behind the camera that will hopefully go into print!
